From 1861 to 1865, the American Civil War ravaged the United States, as division over issues like slavery and states’ rights split the nation. However, one of the first signs of the surging conflict came a decade earlier with the Resistance at Christiana, where a group of citizens in a small Pennsylvania community took on a posse trying to return escaped slaves to bondage.
