Jeffrey Wasserstrom will give the talk, "Angry Ghosts: Chinese Boxers, Foreign Invaders and the Tragedies of 1900," on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Rooke Chemistry Auditorium (Room 116) at Bucknell University. The talk is free and open to the public.

The Jazz at Bucknell series opens with two concerts by pianist Dan Tepfer. The first, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 17, begins at 7:30 p.m. in Bucknell Hall. The program includes a solo performance of Tepfer's Goldberg Variations/Variations, an interpretation of Bach's legendary work.

Reminiscent of early 20th century music, The New York City-based jazz band will bring the speakeasy spirit alive with its blustery brass lineup and rhythm section. Led by stride-piano virtuoso Evan “Bibs” Palazzo, and fronted by its “one-of-the-boys” vocalist, “Miz Elizabeth” Bougerol, The Hot Sardines pay homage to artists such as Fats Waller, Django Reinhardt and Louis Armstrong. The band even features its very own tap dancer!
The Costume Closet and More at 359 Market Street in Sunbury, is being re-launched under new owner, Ben Hartman. Although the store is still currently open, the official grand re-opening of the store will be Sat., Sept. 27, 2014.
John Eberman Jr. was the only Lancaster clockmaker known to have made tower clock movements. Eberman operated his shop in Lancaster from 1772 to 1807, where he mostly made 30-hour and 8-day time-and-strike tallcase movements constructed in the English tradition.
John Bianco, of Springs Window Fashions, Williamsport, is hosting Modern Art Against Myeloma, an exhibit and sale to raise funds for the Susquehanna Health Cancer Center and the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) Oct. 3 and 4 at the Holiday Inn, Gallery Room, 100 Pine St., Williamsport.

The Peak 98.5/MediaOnePA Women's Show, presented by Memorial Hospital, offers two days of shopping, exhibits, fashion shows, entertainment, seminars, demonstrations, sampling and much more, geared especially to the interests of women. A portion of the proceeds from the show, sponsored by Advanced Vein & Laser Center and Weis Markets, will benefit United Way of York County.

On December 31, 1981, without seeing the completion of the theatre that bears her name, Alvina Krause closed the year, and her life, listening as her Ensemble, their eyes brimming with tears, sang carols for their dying mentor.
