Susquehanna Life Magazine Contributes Books to Union County Library

Mar 09, 2021 10:34AM ● By Erica Shames

Eleven years ago, Susquehanna Life magazine created the Susquehanna Life Pennsylvania Collection at the Public Library for Union County, in Lewisburg. The magazine has made another large donation of books to the collection this year, bringing the total number of books donated to over 500.

The collection was started to draw attention, and provide library patrons access, to the many high quality books written about Pennsylvania.

Susquehanna Life magazine’s most recent donation of 32 books about Pennsylvania range from coffee table tomes about heirloom gardening and the Susquehanna River to fictionalized accounts of history and cultural heirlooms in the commonwealth.

The Susquehanna Life Magazine Pennsylvania Collection at the library is a diverse collection of books highlighting life in Pennsylvania from many different perspectives, including history, travel, outdoor recreation, culture and art. Among the collection are dozens of first-edition books, and several out-of-print works.

With the library construction and rearranging of collections, the Susquehanna Life Pennsylvania Collection is now integrated into the adult nonfiction collection and has a special spine label that denotes Susquehanna Life collection. Comfortable seating nearby encourages readers to relax and browse these regionally-related materials that offer glimpses of the positive, little-known and under-appreciated aspects of life in Pennsylvania.

Throughout its 28-year history, Susquehanna Life magazine, headquartered in Lewisburg, has shined a powerful light on all that is positive about life in Pennsylvania. From articles on outdoor recreation and cultural opportunities to history, food, people and places, both famous and unknown, each issue of the magazine is designed to remind readers what a wonderful world we live in.

“One of the most frequent compliments we hear is, “I didn’t know that until I read it in Susquehanna Life magazine,” said Erica Shames, founder and publisher, Susquehanna Life magazine. “We strive to replicate that sense of wonder and amazement with the books we contribute to the Susquehanna Life Pennsylvania Collection at the library. We encourage everyone to check it out!”
