Shikellamy State Park Celebration

May 03, 2017 02:19PM ● By Erica Shames
PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) secretary Cindy Adams Dunn will lead a celebration of continued growth at Shikellamy State Park May 18, starting at 11 a.m., at the Shikellamy State Park Overlook, in Sunbury.

The event celebrates the expansion of the park, through land acquisition starting in 2015, that has doubled the size of the popular park.

"These properties add significantly to the Shikellamy Bluff," said Dunn in an article in the Spring 2017 issue of Susquehanna Life magazine.

In addition to the 36-acre McGinnis site acquired in 2015, the Bureau of State Parks recently acquired the adjacent 82-acre Rozykie property, an activity coordinated with help from the Merrill W. Linn Conservancy's Linking Landscapes Initiative, which creates connections between protected open spaces for the well-being of wildlife and the protection and maintenance of high-quality water resources.

The expanded park space is ideal, says Linn Conservancy board president Susan Warner-Mills, for hiking, birdwatching and relaxing.

The public is invited to the May 18 celebration. RSVP by calling (717) 783-4358 or emailing
