Textures in Nature: Fiber Art Composition

CE 220, Saturday, September 17 - November 12*

10 a.m. - 1 p.m., $245

Alexandria Nabinger

The “Textures in Nature” course is an in-depth exploration of creating textile artwork inspired by our natural environment. This class utilizes a combination of textile media (ie. Fabric, thread, felt, plant fibers, etc.) and traditional art media (ie. Paper, pencil, ink, paint, pastel, etc.). You will produce a series of small textile works of art. The first phase of the course will be focused on an introduction to a variety of hand stitching, machine stitching, embroidery, felting, and other mixed media techniques mimicking the textures we see in nature. During the second phase, utilizing original images and photographs, you will create a series of drawings in color to base your textile series on. The final phase of the course will explore the various options for displaying the textile works (ie. Artist books, three-dimensional forms, functional objects, wall hangings, etc.). *this class does not meet on September 24 due to our Open House
