Ghost of the Bayou
White Alligator Exhibit at Reptiland
Witness the rare white alligator in Ghost of the Bayou, a special exhibit at Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland!
Legend has it that people who gaze into the eyes of these mysterious creatures will be blessed with good fortune. We can’t say for sure if that’s true, but we invite you to come see for yourself!
Snowflake, the white alligator visiting this summer, is an albino alligator. He lacks the pigment melanin, making his skin a whitish-ivory color. Even though Snowflake doesn’t look like our other gators, he is the same species—an American alligator.
Because they do not blend in with their surroundings, albinos can be quickly spotted and eaten by predators. That is why white alligators are extremely rare in the wild and are mostly found in zoos, alligator farms, and nature preserves. Biologists estimate that there are only about 100 white alligators in the world!
