The IKIDarod is an event for kids where two-legged, fur-free friends pulled sleds across the snow and onlookers cheer and wave signs, “Go sled dogs!”, in a more-than-slightly modified version of the 1,100-mile sled dog race across Alaska.
There are two races, the Mini-Mushers and Go Sled Dogs!
Mini-Mushers is an Ikidarod event geared for preschoolers. This race is a sled race where the “mini-musher” pulls a stuffed animal around the track stopping at checkpoints along the way. Please bring a small sled and a stuffed animal!
Go Sled-Dogs!- This race is geared for school-aged kids. Teams will be comprised of 4 “dogs”- lead dog, swing dog, team dog and wheel dog and a “musher.” Teams will complete a trail race set up in Lewisburg Recreation Park. Along the trail there will be several checkpoints where teams either complete challenges or refuel: supply check, “doggie” treats, musher snack, water dogs, change dog booties, and vet check. Participants will be assigned a team and position according to age. The race ends when the last musher crosses the “burled arch” finish line!
Iditarod Program - Join us for a pre-event program on Monday, February 16 from 4-5:30
We will learn about “The Last Great Race,” the Iditarod, through stories, pictures, videos, and a guest speaker. We will learn about the sled dogs and how their bodies are designed for pulling. We will walk the course, identify the check points, get a chance to practice pulling a “sled,” and help decorate the ”Burled Arch” that marks the end of the race!
Registration -Day of registration and event check-in takes place in the Warming House, “Headquarters" beginning at 9:30. Please bring a sled if not preregistered.Visit Event Website for More Info
