The Role of the Master Drummer Beyond Africa and Jazz
Phil Haynes, lecturer in music at Bucknell, will present "The Role of the Master Drummer Beyond Africa and Jazz," on Thursday, Nov. 6, at noon at the Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village Common, located at 6 Tressler Blvd. in Lewisburg. The program will feature a live concert, discussion and masterclass on how the ancient African talking drum tradition resonates, grows and is once again in high demand by contemporary culture, both inside and outside of music. Haynes will be joined by a collective of Bucknell private improvisation students. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.; beverages and a light dessert will be provided. Participants may bring their own lunch or purchase a soup-and-sandwich lunch (navy bean soup, chicken salad on a roll and assorted cookies and peanut butter brownies) for $6 by contacting the Bucknell Institute for Lifelong Learning office at 570-522-0105 or email@example.com up to noon of the day prior to the program; payment can be made at the door.
