A Service of Nine Lesson and Carols
Make this century-old holiday tradition your own.
A service based on the world-famous Service of Nine Lessons and Carols held since 1918 at King's College, Cambridge, England, will take place on Sunday, December 8, at historic Market Square Presbyterian Church, 20 S. Second Street, Harrisburg. The prelude music begins at 4:30 p.m. and the service at 5:00 p.m. The service is a gift from the congregation to the community through its Arts on the Square series.
Participating will be the church's Sanctuary Choir, accompanied by a chamber orchestra and organist Ellen Landis Hunt, and the Market Square Ringers, all under the direction of Tyler A. Canonico, Minister of Music and Organist. Works will include Philip Barnes’ “The Lord at First Did Adam Make,” Pietro Yon’s “Gesù Bambino,” Matthew Culloton’s “The Holly and the Ivy,” and more. The congregation will participate in singing traditional Advent and Christmas carols.
A free-will offering will be received. Market Square Church will provide parking at no charge to attendees in the adjacent city-owned Market Square Garage. Access to the church is available from level 1. The church building is accessible to people with disabilities.
