Shikellamy Bluffs Tour
Learn all about the geological forces that created the Shikellamy Bluffs many millions of years ago.
Geology professor Jeff Trop will lead a Shikellamy Bluffs Tour on Sunday, May 5, beginning at 1 p.m. The tour, which is sponsored by the Merrill Linn Conservancy, will begin in the Marina section of Shikellamy State Park on Packer’s Island between Sunbury and Northumberland. This spot provides the best view of the bluff’s strata, folded and uplifted some 250 to 290 million years ago during the collision of the North American and African tectonic plates. We will then head to Shikellamy State Park Overlook on the west shore to explore and enjoy the spectacular views. For more information, call 570-524-8666 or visit www.linnconservancy.org.
