Union County Resource Center is offering free gardening & cooking workshops from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. as part of its new Gardening Workshop series. Attendees gain a hands-on experience working from garden to kitchen in a quick few steps.
Union County Resource Center Hosts First Cooking Workshop
Lewisburg, PA – On August 8, Union County Resource Center (UCRC) will be offering a free cooking and meal preparation course from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. as part of its new Gardening Workshop series. Shade Stone Farm, a local, family-owned farm, will educate attendees on how to cook quick, nutritious, and affordable meals while preparing a fresh meal for the group to enjoy at the end of the workshop.
UCRC’s free gardening workshops occur every Wednesday until August 15. Attendees gain a hands-on experience of working from the garden to the kitchen in a quick few steps. Each workshop is led by different members of the community with varied knowledge in gardening and food preparation. On August 1, Betty Kratzer will lead Food Preservation that entails cooking fresh tomato sauce, the process of food canning, and attendees will get to take home a can themselves. Lastly, the August 15, Harvesting workshop is being led by Selinsgrove Area High School FFA adviser, Valerie Fry.

Union County Resource Center aims to lead Union County families and individuals in self-sufficiency through workshops and community outreach in hopes of reducing local poverty. The UCRC offers a variety of workshops such as financial literacy, adult educational classes, job search, drug and alcohol counseling, and more. The UCRC has partnered with Union-Snyder Community Action Agency in ultimately breaking the cycle of poverty so that all people in Union and Snyder Counties can thrive independently.
