George Spangler Farm Civil War Field Hospital

Maxwell’s Battery and The Frederick Ladies Relief Society

Maxwell’s Battery and The Frederick Ladies Relief Society will be onsite to help you discover the stories of the soldiers, surgeons and civilians of Gettysburg–just minutes from the battlefield. The groups will educate visitors about the purpose of the Civil War field hospital, as well as the devastating wounds and how they were treated along with the support services that were provided to the medical personnel and the wounded and sick soldiers. Living historians will depict civilian life during the Civil War era in support of the war effort with a particular emphasis on the United States Sanitary Commission. A special program, “Suspense and Anguish”: Songs and Stories from Gettysburg Civilians will also be held on Saturday, July 7 at 12:30 p.m. in the lower level of the barn. The site will be open for the 2018 summer season from June 8 – August 12 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday only from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Access is via shuttle from the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center.
