Lewisburg Celebration of the Arts
April 27-May 12, Downtown Lewisburg
When does it finally feel like spring? When it's time for the 2018 Lewisburg Celebration of the Arts! This year's Celebration runs two weeks from April 27 – May 12, and the Featured Artist for 2018 will be plein-air painter Simonne Roy.
The main event of the Celebration is the Lewisburg Arts Festival on Saturday, April 28, with over 100 juried artists displaying their works throughout downtown Lewisburg. There are two stages of performers, with partial support by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. There will be FOUR food areas this year, plus an Artisanal Food area on Market Street at Front Street. While you're strolling, don't forget the Indoor Art Exhibit and the Photography Exhibit, or the Featured Artist exhibit at Faustina Gallery. Be sure to stop by the Community Commons, where many of the area’s nonprofits are set up with information and activities (including gym mats to get the wiggles out!).
There's much more to the two weeks of the Celebration of the Arts, like the various Exhibits and Events that take place in the area. The Annual Indoor Art Exhibit, a juried show for adult artists at the Packwood House Museum, 15 N. Water St., and the juried Photography Exhibit in the William Himmelreich Library, 18 Market St., both run from Saturday, April 28 through Saturday, May 5. Awards receptions for both shows on the evening of Friday, April 27 are open to the public.
Sunday, April 29 is the Plein Air Event cosponsored by the Merrill W. Linn Conservancy, the Lewisburg Arts Council, and the Artists' Guild. Four free workshops over the course of the two weeks will give adults and children a chance to try their hand at a different art form – in areas such as painting, drawing, and photography!
The final event of the Celebration is Lewisburg Live! on Saturday, May 12. Seven bands will perform live music in nine different venues between 6pm and midnight. Music ranges from folk to rock to jazz to blues – something for every taste. And all free!
