International Climate Strike Comes to Lewisburg, Pa., September 20th

Betrand Library, at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., will be the rallying point for the Sept. 20 Climate Strike event. 

The Fridays for Future school strike for climate has been going on for a year now thanks to Swedish teen Greta Thunberg and, as you may have heard, an international Climate Strike has been called for Friday, September 20.  What do you have planned for that day?

This is what is being planned for the day in Lewisburg, Pa., but everyone is encourated to engage as you see fit and are able. 

On Friday, September 20, from 11:30am to 2pm, Green New Deal Lewisburg invites you to join people around the world in the streets of Lewisburg to demand action to prevent further global warming and climate change. The climate crisis is real, it is urgent, and it is not too late to transform into opportunities for prosperity, justice, and equality. But it will take a committed effort. This is a non-partisan, non-violent event coordinated with the Global Climate Strike. All are welcome.

The event is being co-sponsored by:

- concerned faculty in the Departments of Environmental Studies and Sciences, Geography, and Religious Studies at Bucknell University;
- the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life; 
Climate Reality Project: Susquehanna Valley PA Chapter
CommUnity Zone;  
- the Otzinachson chapter of the Sierra Club; and
- Beaver Memorial Church.

The event is also being coordinated with help from the Borough of Lewisburg and Bucknell University.

Event TBD: Art Build to create EPIC signs, banners, and chants!

Here is the schedule of events:
Friday, Sep 20th---
11:30 a.m.: Meet in front of Bertrand Library, Bucknell University
11:30-11:55: Rally for Climate Action at Bucknell 
Approx. 11:55 a.m.: Begin marching to Hufnagle Park gazebo
Approx. 12:30 p.m.: Rally for Climate Action in Lewisburg at gazebo
Approx. 12:50 p.m.: End; adjourn to Post Office for peaceful protest
This program is set up by Green New Deal Lewisburg.  Here is the link to the event on facebook.  Anyone is welcome to participate.  Anyone is welcome to get involved with helping to make it happen.  One of the best ways to help make it happen is to personally invite your circle of friends, colleagues, neighbors, and acquaintances.  Chances are, they don't even know it's happening.
