Evangelical: One of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience & Orthopaedics

Jun 17, 2019 10:40AM ● By Erica Shames

Evangelical Community Hospital was recently named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience and one of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopaedics by Women’s Choice, a consumer advisory group directed toward women.

As a Best Hospital for Patient Experience, the Women’s Choice Award affirms that Evangelical provides comprehensive services that women are willing to recommend Evangelical as a hospital of choice due to positive doctor and nurse communications, staff help, pain management, cleanliness, and explanation of medications, in that order.

“Positive patient experience results from every area of the Hospital working together to provide exceptional healthcare and experiences. This award is made possible by our staff, providers, and volunteers’ tremendous efforts in keeping the patient at the center of everything we do,” said Nichole Weber, Director of Patient Experience at Evangelical Community Hospital.

As America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopaedics, Evangelical was given the award because it provides comprehensive orthopaedic services, such as arthroscopy, joint replacements, and spine surgery services, as well as offering onsite MRI and physical therapy. Evangelical was judged based on the Hospital’s results through the Hospital Consumer Assessment for Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey for patient recommendations and post-operative recovery instructions, measures that are very important to women when choosing a hospital.

“We are extremely proud of the exceptional orthopaedics program we have at Evangelical,” said Teresa Swenson, Associate Vice President of Surgical Group and Practice Operations. “From visiting the Center for Orthopaedics for diagnosis, care planning, and treatment, to visiting the Hospital’s surgical services for resolution if needed, to inpatient care on the orthopaedic wing of the Hospital, to imaging and physical therapy, every aspect of orthopaedic care is delivered with compassion and desire to get patients back to living an active life.”

The America’s 100 Best Hospitals scoring process is unique in that it is the only national list that focuses on female patient satisfaction. The process begins with a survey of hundreds of women. The Women’s Choice award survey determines which questions in the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, completed by patients after discharge, are most important to them in determining their satisfaction with their hospital stay.

“Women are responsible for over 85% of all consumer purchased and influence over 90% of family healthcare decisions,” said founder and chief mission officer Della Passi of Women’s Choice. “The mission of Women’s Choice is to give women a collective voice so they can help each other identify brands, products, and services that deserve loyalty and referrals. Women’s Choice is a trusted referral source for women who are searching for the most recommended hospitals, businesses, brands, and services.”
