Letters to the Editor [Summer 2018]

Jun 11, 2018 03:54PM

Dear Erica,

As one of the founders of Total Outdoors, it was very exciting to read your article about our non-profit in the latest edition of Susquehanna Life magazine. In addition to the great layout, you did an excellent job providing the organization with some outstanding publicity and awareness in the Central PA community.

Although I am no longer on the TO Board of Directors, I continue to consult with Bruce Fisher on strategic communications and outreach efforts. As a retired Army officer, I greatly appreciate the value and the impact of your publication, particularly in support of our military service members.

I will share the article with other PA Veterans groups with which I am also working, as well as other veterans groups in my home state of Virginia. Thank you again for your outstanding support of TO!

Sincerely,

Wayne M. White, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army (Retired)
Lake Frederick, VA

Dear Erica,

A special “Thank-you” for the great article on Doug Michael [Winter 2017/2018]. We found the little restaurant, The Baker’s Guild Café, in Bloomsburg. The food was fantastic, the service superb and the bread we bought was delicious.

We found our way to Wild for Salmon to purchase fresh fish to try, and to make the salmon pita I ordered at the café. There also we found wonderful service. What a great Friday we had, and all so close to home. Thanks for your wonderful magazine.

Dear Erica,

When I read the article [about Total Outdoors] I thought back to how a whole team of people came together to help our veterans and their families and became very emotional. This reading renewed a promise that I made to myself in 2001—that I would help people that sacrifice every day for our freedom and our way of life. I personally have made lifelong friends and the team has made a difference in the lives of so many veterans and military families. That is the gift we all share.

I am so grateful to you and your team. Words just will not suffice. Total Outdoors/Susquehanna Life Team Victory #1 for 2018. Again, thank-you. Please come to see me and we will fish together. I can give you a better understanding if I can take you fishing on a small brook trout stream deep in the mountains. Karen DelRaso, my best friend and executive director of Total Outdoors, would very much like to meet you and share that day with you.

Gratefully & respectfully,

Bruce Fisher, Total Outdoors
Weikert, PA

Hi Erica,

I have been a subscriber for a number of years. Actually, since I was living in Brooklyn, NY, so at least since 2005. Then we moved to Staten Island, to a 1920s Craftsman cottage with fruit trees in the yard. It’s the closest I can be to living in the country and still being in my beloved NYC.

My father’s family has lived in Union County since the 1750s and I have visited there my whole life! A cousin of mine, Bill Heim, used to have the Scarlet D in Mifflinburg. My husband and I have a house in Centre County, near Millheim, that my parents bought 60 years ago, and where we continue to go.

We have good friends in Centre Hall, and we were visiting them a few days ago. Barb mentioned that she had seen your magazine and found it very interesting, so I ordered her a subscription.

My husband and I love your magazine. There are always interesting articles and informative listings of things to do. We have visited a bunch of places written about in the magazine. And the photography is top-notch! Keep up the good work.

Best wishes,

Dianne Mitchell
Staten Island, NY
