Battle of the Burgs is Almost Here!

May 22, 2017 10:16AM ● Published by Erica Shames

Volunteers for the Battle of the ‘Burgs met recently at Ard’s to iron out the final details for the race and post-race party June 9, starting at 6:30 p.m. Pictured, L to R, are: Dan Greak, Sue Baker, Bridget Baker, Christina Greak, Logan Greak, Ryley Greak and Erica Shames. Volunteers missing from the photo include: Tony Massoud, Dr. Michelle Keller, Brian Keller, Wendy Claus, Scott Smith, Georgene Smith, Michael Zechman, Gloria Phillips, Scott Edmonds and Sue Edmonds.

The event, now in its third year, is a fundraiser for the Michael P. Baker Community Impact Fund, which distributes funds to area families struggling with catastrophic illness or circumstance and is administered by the First Community Foundation of Williamsport.

Racers – both walkers and runners – will start at the Lewisburg end of the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail, at 16th Street, since Lewisburg won last year’s race. Who will take home the honor this year, and have their ‘Burg’s name posted on the winners’ plaque?

The race end point is the middle of the trail, at Ard’s Farm. A post-race celebration takes place 7 to 9:30, featuring an all-you-can-eat BBQ, live music from Runaway Stroller and beer tastings from Rusty Rail Brewing Co., Mifflinburg.

New this year: a raffle to win prizes including classes from Greak’s School of TaeKwon-Do, Susquehanna Life magazine gift basket, massage from Gloria’s Therapeutic Massage, Beach Party-themed Gift Basket, Movie Night-themed Gift Basket and more! Businesses wishing to contribute raffle prizes can contact Erica Shames at (570) 522-0149.

There are a few slots left for the race – and lots of room at the party. To make sure you get in, sign up today at AFitEvent.com (pre-registration discounts apply).  We look forward to seeing you there.

If you can’t attend the race or party, contributions to the Michael P. Baker Community Impact Fund are welcomed. Checks should be made out to First Community Foundation, with Michael Baker Community Impact Fund in the subject line, and mailed to: PO Box 421, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

This year’s Battle of the ‘Burgs is sponsored by Associated Oral Surgeons. Supporters include Dedicated Nursing Associates, Lycoming Physical Therapy, Dr. Michelle Keller and Susquehanna Life magazine. The event is a joint venture by Fit for Funds LLC and the Michael P. Baker Fund Committee.
