Sustainable Tuesday and Wednesday

Mar 28, 2016 03:52PM ● By Erica Shames
Sustainable Tuesday (March 29) and Sustainable Wednesday (March 30) takes place at WKOK 1070 AM with MARK LAWRENCE, starting at 7:10 a.m. on both days.

Listeners will learn about the crisis facing our nation: the poor health of our soil threatens the well-being of the planet, and the human, plant and animal life that inhabits it.

And we'll learn about the pragmatic, hard-working farmers and business people taking steps to improve farming techniques to make a difference.

Join host Mark Lawrence as he interviews Susquehanna Life magazine publisher Erica Shames and Caroline Owens, of Owens Farm, at 7:10 a.m. Caroline will talk about what it's like to be at the forefront of the sustainability movement.

Then, at 7:40 a.m., Nate Siegel, general manager of Mifflinburg Lumber and Susquehanna HomeScapes, will discuss his chicken rearing experiment designed to teach his children about the importance of raising your own food sustainably.

On March 30, at 7:10 a.m. Mark Lawrence interviews Loganton dairy farmer Jim Harmach  about practices he employs to nourish his farm's soil, and what it's done for his yields, and independent crop advisor Sara Troisi will talk about the importance of soil health to the future of our health and the health of the planet.
