Dr. Manickam joins Precision Health Center as clinical geneticist

Murugu Manickam, M.D., FACMG, has joined Geisinger Health System as a clinical geneticist based at the Precision Health Center in Forty Fort working with the MyCode Community Health Initiative.

In addition to his work at Geisinger, Dr. Manickam is developing a curriculum on genetic medicine with The Commonweath Medical College in Scranton.

Dr. Manickam was previously at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University Medical Center. He received his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, completed a residency in internal medicine-pediatrics at Case Western/MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, and completed a fellowship in clinical genetics at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

He is board certified in internal medicine and clinical genetics, and is pursuing a master’s degree in public health in health care leadership and policy. 

Dr. Manickam’s clinical interests are rare disease as well as common disease genomics and preventative care for both of these fields. His research focus is on common disease genomics, health care policy and integration into an electronic medical record. He has been an invited lecturer and moderator at national and international meetings on the genetics and genomics.
