Get ready to vote for your favorite river, the Susquehanna, in the 2016 Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds and Rivers (POWR) River of the Year contest!
Voting began November 13, 2015, and is open until 5 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2015. Visit www.pariveroftheyear.org to vote and learn more about the contest.
The Endless Mountains Heritage Region (EMHR) and the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership are proud to announce that they are working together to represent the entire North Branch of the Susquehanna River by coordinating with local towns, conservation organizations and volunteers. Together, EMHR and SGP can increase the visibility for conservation, recreation, and stewardship issues for the Susquehanna River.
Janet Sweeney, of POWR, stated that “This is a wonderful and unique opportunity for residents across the Commonwealth to show support for their local river by taking part in the voting process for the 2016 River of the Year.”
The winning river will receive a $10,000 leadership grant to help implement year-round events and projects that not only celebrate the river, but will make it easier and safer to access and enjoy – such as sojourns, festivals, paddling events, and river clean-ups.
Make sure you get your vote out, and share with your friends and families from EHMR and the Susquehanna Greenway’s Facebook pages, so that we can enjoy and better the Susquehanna River together.
