Our Beloved CommUnity

Jun 04, 2015 04:06PM ● By Erica Shames

Would you like to enjoy eclectic music, eat delicious food and join a variety of activities while learning how wonderful our community is? Come to “Our Beloved Community” event to celebrate volunteer activities and honor the amazing work done by Doug and Margie Sturm and by many other members of our community. Susquehanna Life Magazine is one of the many organizations that will be on exhibit that day with subscription specials and the new summer 2015 issue.

Our hope is that “Our Beloved Community” becomes a yearly event to celebrate our ties to each other, as well as to inspire further commitment to volunteerism and a bold vision for a better world.

The CommUnity Zone, in partnership with CARE (Community Alliance for Respect & Equality) is organizing “Our Beloved CommUnity.”  The celebration will open at the gazebo with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate the Beloved Community Kiosk in honor of Doug and Margie Sturm who taught us all what being a good and committed citizen is all about.  That ceremony will be followed by a full afternoon of wonderful music, good food, and activities for all ages.

In addition, representatives from a number of local agencies will be staffing booths and providing information about many of the wonderful initiatives already happening in the Susquehanna Valley.  A variety of service opportunities, including health care, education, animal assistance and more, will be represented so that individuals may find personally meaningful ways to give something back to the wider community that nurtures us all.

We at the CommUnity Zone and CARE believe in creating a place where all members of the community and organizations that serve them share ideas, talents and resources that contribute to vibrant, caring and connected communities. It’s a grand idea, but one that deserves more of our attention. While each of us can make a difference, together we can make true and lasting change.   Please join us.
