Union County Recycling Event Canceled

Due to a recent and substantial increase in the cost to recycle electronics, Union County will not be hosting a recycling event this spring. The HandUp Foundation will host a limited recycling event on May 15 and 16. More information about that listed below.
There are also some permanent options in place to recycle computers, TVs, electronics, etc. Permanent options include the following:

The HandUp Foundation accepts the following materials in any condition.
(All lists are subject to change at the discretion of the company):
Small Electronics ($2 each):
Radios, Stereos, DVD Players and VCRs, Coffee Makers, Humidifiers, Blenders and Mixers, Printers, Fax Machines, Copiers, Home Phones, TV Receivers, Alarm Clocks, Hair Dryers, and Printers.
Miscellaneous ($3 each):
Vacuum Cleaners, Shampooers, Dishwashers, and Computer Monitors.
Televisions. (TVs under 26” are $3 / TVs 26” or larger are $5)
There are NO charges for the following items:
Washer, Dryer, Stove, Refrigerator, Freezer, Dehumidifier, Microwave, Air Conditioner, etc. (Most places charge for Freon items but there is NO fee at the HandUP Foundation!)
Shelves, Desks, Metal Farm Scrap, Metal Pipe, Filing Cabinets, Aluminum Siding, Lawn Mowers, Motors, Water Heaters, etc.
Clothes, Shoes, Purses, Backpacks, Belts, Hats, Blankets, Sheets, Towels, Linens, etc.
Office Paper (White), Mixed Paper, Newspaper, Phone Books, Books (resalable and junk books), Magazines, Catalogues, Paperboard or Chipboard such as Cereal Boxes, Shoe Boxes, Toilet Rolls, etc.
# 1 Clear Plastic Soda Bottles, # 2 Plastic Milk Bottles, Plastic Bags, Plastic Packing, and Colored Plastics.
Computer Towers, Car Batteries, Cell Phones, Junk Cars, Ink Cartridges, Toner Cartridges, and Quality Used Latex Paint. (Latex based paint only!)
(*Latex or oil based paint can also be disposed of with your regular trash as long as it has been dried out first and then re-capped. Cat litter, saw dust, and shredded newspaper are commonly used as drying agents to speed up the process.)
The HandUp Foundation also offers paper shredding on Mondays and Thursdays.
White Office Paper and Windowless Envelopes ONLY! Depending on the amount, HandUp may pick up your Office Paper and/or Windowless Envelopes free of charge.
Note: The HandUp Foundation will also be hosting a limited Recycling Event on Friday, May 15th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Saturday, May 16th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The event will be held at the SilverMoon Antique Mall parking lot.
Items accepted at the recycling event include: Refrigerators, Air Conditioners, Water Coolers, Dehumidifiers, Freezers, Textiles, Plastics, Electronics, Computers, Paper, Metal, and Books.
NO other items will be accepted other than the ones listed!
UNICOR is a federally run program that works in conjunction with the Lewisburg Penitentiary. There are NO fees associated with UNICOR!

UNICOR accepts the following items at no charge:
Desktop Computers, Laptops, Printers, Monitors, Mainframes/Servers, Printer Cartridges, Toner Cartridges, Modems, CD-ROM Drives, Plotters, Circuit Boards, Memory Sticks, Memory Boards, Hard Drives, and Floppy Drives.
Copiers, Fax Machines, Shredders, and Power Strips.
All Phones, Blackberry’s, and PDAs.
TVs, Radios, Cable Boxes, TiVo’s, DVRs, and MP3s
X-Box, Game Boys, Play Station, Nintendo, and Wii Systems.
Other Devices w/ Circuit Boards:
Calculators and Cameras.
Metal Filing Cabinets, Metal Storage Cabinets, Metal Lockers, Metal Shavings, and Metal Folding Chairs.
All types of batteries EXCEPT for Alkaline Batteries. For example, UNICOR accepts Lead Acid Batteries, Nickel-Cadmium Batteries, Lithium Batteries, Carbon-Zinc Batteries, etc.
Copper Wire, Phone Wire, Coaxial Cable, and Computer Wire. NO Fiber Optic Cable!

UNICOR does NOT accept the following items:
- No furniture with wood or fabric.
- No tapes of any kind, for example VCR Tapes and Backup Tapes.
- No hazardous equipment such as Oils, PCBs, Acids, Refrigerants, Radioactive Material, ION Scanners, Paints, or Liquids of any kind.
