ABCs of Butterflies & Bees

THURSDAY, April 30th | 6:00 - 8:00 PM

Union County Library, 255 Reitz Boulevard, Lewisburg

Lesley Thompson of Clyde Peeling's Reptiland will talk butterflies. Specifically she will focus on butterfly anatomy and life cycle; description of some butterfly and moth species found in the U.S.; the monarch migration; threats to butterfly populations; and how to attract butterflies to your backyard.

David Hackenberg of Hackenberg Apiaries will talk bees. If it wasn't for the very active life of the Honey Bee, many of the fruits and vegetables we eat everyday would never exist. Bee pollination is responsible for at least 30% of the world's crops and 90% of its wild flowers. Dave will discuss the importance of bees in our food production, the threats to bees from monoculture agriculture and pesticides and what we can do to improve the environment for both native and honey bees.
