It is that time of year again -- time to clean up the banks of our beautiful Susquehanna River!! Last year, over 90 volunteers got together to comb the banks of the river, exceeding the weight of garbage, recyclables, and tires found during the 2013 cleanup (more than 6,000 pounds total). Volunteers found bottles, tires, lawn chairs, truck batteries and even an old refrigerator!
This year's event will be held Saturday, May 2nd with registration starting at 9:00am at the Sunbury Boat Launch. The cleanup will work much the same as it did last year. Once again, all necessary supplies, lunch, and water will be provided, and we will also be providing volunteers with our awesome SRCP t-shirts!
Please head to our website, www.susquehannacleanup.com, and pre-register to volunteer! Pre-registrations help us determine t-shirt, food, supply, & boat needs.
BOATERS: If you are planning to boat during the cleanup (supplying your own boat), please arrange for a ride from a friend to get back to your vehicle at the Chilisquaque Boat Launch at the end of the day.
LEADERS NEEDED! We are looking for several individuals to take a leadership role again this year as "guides" for small groups of volunteers. These positions will include on-water/by-boat guides and walking guides. The guide's primary responsibility will be to lead a group of 6-8 volunteers to their determined cleanup site and direct them with best cleanup practices. If you are interested in taking on one of these roles, please email or call us (570-809-0591 / email@example.com).
CONCERT: In years past, we have held a concert directly after the cleanup, but we believe waiting a week to hold this concert will give our volunteers an opportunity to rest up, clean up, and join us for a relaxing and fun time as a reward for all of your hard work.
The celebratory and family-friendly concert will be held Saturday, May 9th by the river at the Sunbury Amphitheater. Bands will be announced as they are scheduled but will definitely include our buddies from Monkey and the Engineers who have faithfully played our last couple shows.
The concert will begin at 3:00pm and end around 8:00pm. It is FREE and open to the public, so bring your friends and family! During the show, we will hold a 50/50 drawing to benefit the SRCP. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, and volunteer awards and door prizes will be given out.
