Keystone Trails to Hold Annual Spring Meeting in April

The Keystone Trails Association will host its annual Spring Meeting and Hiking Weekend from Friday, April 17, to Sunday, April 19, at Camp Swatara, in Bethel, Berks County. With a robust hiking and activity schedule organized by the Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club (BMECC), there is sure to be something for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages, interests and abilities! Stay for a day or for the whole weekend!

In addition to hikes of all lengths and difficulty, the following activities are currently being planned: Friday evening hoe-down; invasive plants workshop; 33-foot climbing tower and ropes course (age 11 minimum); mini-golf; evening bonfire; boating on the lake; and a basket/ backpack raffle. The Saturday keynote presentation will be Karen Lutz, ATC Mid-Atlantic Representative, about threats to regional hiking trails by cell towers, power lines, and pipelines.


The Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club (BMECC) is KTA's host for the weekend! Founded in 1916, the BMECC performs on-going maintenance, clean-ups and repairs on the Appalachian Trail, shelters, Arboretum, and other projects throughout the year. To read more about the BMECC, click here.


The Weekend Package includes six meals (Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and Sunday breakfast and lunch) and two nights’ lodging (Friday and Saturday nights). Choose the lodging option that best meets your needs and budget!

Children under age 3 are free; age 3-8 are 50% of adult rate; age 9-17 are 75% of adult rate; please use paper registration form if you are registering children, or contact us for instructions on how to register your children online.

Lodge: Enjoy a room in Camp Swatara’s modern and comfortable West Lodge, North Lodge, or West Retreat, with indoor restrooms and showers (a limited number of rooms have private restrooms, and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis). Rooms can accommodate 1-6 individuals. Per person rates: $290 single/ $245 double/ $190 triple/ $175 quadruple/ $159 group rate.

Family cabins: Ideal for couples, small groups of friends, and families, these rustic cabins each have 4 sets of bunk beds. Showers/restrooms are available in nearby West Lodge. Per person rates: $290 single/ $245 double/ $190 triple/ $175 quadruple.

Men/ Women’s Cabins: Share one of four large cabins with 5 to 8 other men or women (lower bunks only). Cabins have indoor bathrooms/ showers. Per person rates: Group rate only (5-8 per cabin) $159.

Camping: 9 primitive sites are available. Price includes all meals/ activities! $100 per person.
