Messiah College's Daniel Finch Offered Mural Project

Oct 16, 2014 01:46PM ● By Erica Shames

The Susquehanna Art Museum in Harrisburg announces an important update to its ongoing public arts mural project — a collaboration between artists, community members, and arts organizations through the city of Harrisburg.

The mural selection committee met recently to interpret the submitted proposals as well as the feedback from more than 1,000 community members. We are pleased to offer the project to artist and Messiah College professor Daniel Finch. Mr. Finch’s mural design (shown above) incorporates a combination of symbols “meant to serve as an image of beauty, hope, and optimism regarding Harrisburg’s future.”

The mural project, with the support of the Hershey Harrisburg Visitor’s Bureau, is dedicated to fostering community collaborations and partnerships. The museum will open a new 20,000-square-foot facility at 3rd and Calder streets in January 2015 that will be a cultural hub and catalyst for further development in the Midtown arts district of Harrisburg. Preparation for the mural project will continue through 2014, with a dedication to be held in the spring 2015. Sponsorships and donations to support this public art initiative are still being sought.
