A good old-fashioned love story with plenty of wonderful music by the masters of romance, George and Ira Gershwin, is the perfect way to welcome in the fall season and you can experience one at the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre! Crazy For You will be playing September 25th through November 8th.
Crazy For You is the story of Bobby Child, a well-to-do 1930’s rich kid who just wants to be a Broadway hoofer. And despite the serious efforts of his mother to turn him into a ruthless banker, Bobby decides to follow his dream instead! Bobby’s mother demands that he carry out a piece of banking business for her and go to Deadrock, Nevada to foreclose on a rundown theatre. When Bobby arrives in Deadrock, he notices that the town had seen better days! The owner’s spunky daughter, Polly, vows to get even with Bobby Child, the man that would put her dad out of business, if she ever meets him. But from the moment Bobby meets Polly, he falls head over heels and that sets a whirlwind of lies into motion. Bobby finds himself in quite a bind… if he forecloses on the theatre, he will lose the girl he loves; so of course he decides to impersonate Broadway producer Bela Zangler and put on a show to pay off the mortgage. Then the real Bela Zangler as well as Bobby’s fiance’, Irene, show up in Deadrock, and all the fun really starts!
Memorable Gershwin tunes include I Can’t Be Bothered Now, Bidin’ My Time, I Got Rhythm, They Can’t Take That Away from Me, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Embraceable You and Someone to Watch Over Me. It’s a high energy musical comedy with mistaken identities, plot twists, fabulous tap dancing and classic Gershwin music.
Jake Delaney is sure to impress audiences as the lead, Bobby Child. Jake has performed in numerous national and international tours including The Addams Family, Fiddler on the Roof and ‘S Wonderful: The New Gershwin Musical.
Emily Grace Tucker made her mark on the Dutch Apple stage as Jennyanydots, the tap dancing cat, in CATS and now she is back to portray Polly Baker. Emily has recently been around the world with Disney Cruise Lines portraying such classic Disney characters as Belle and Cruelle De Vil.
Sherry Konjura, who is taking the stage for the second time as Bobby’s mother, Mrs. Lottie Child, has been doing shows for Prather Entertainment Group since 1984. Being in the business for many years, Sherry has taught theatre at Mississippi State University, performed in England, and has also written and produced several children’s theatre productions and one full-length play entitled Christmas in Paradise. She just returned from Prather Entertainment Group’s Florida theatre, The Broadway Palm, where she played Nana in Nana’s Naughty Knickers.
Bela Zangler is portrayed by a Dutch Apple favorite; Craig Smith. Craig is no stranger to this stage performing as Charlie Cowell in The Music Man as well as Bud Frump in How to Succeed in Business. He can also be seen on YouTube as The Joker in the Batman musical, The Darkest Knight.
Galloway Stevens takes the role of Lank Hawkins, the town’s saloon owner who wants to marry Polly and buy her father’s theatre. Galloway is thrilled to be back at the Dutch Apple where he has starred in several productions such as The Drowsy Chaperone, 9 to 5 and The King & I. He has spent the last two years touring nationally with Broadway’s The Addams Family and has even had engagements in Singapore, China and Hong Kong. Galloway spent the past summer in sunny California where he portrayed Jud Fry in Oklahoma!
Crazy For You is being directed by Dean Sobon who is no stranger to the Dutch Apple stage. Dean has directed previous productions at Dutch Apple such as Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which he will also direct for the national tour, as well as Big River and Sound of Music. Choreographer Samantha Hewes has grown up with the Prather Entertainment Group and the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre. In fact, she performed her first role as Dainty June in Gypsy when she was only eight. Now she is excited to be working alongside Dean in the artistic creation of one of her favorite musicals. When she is not choreographing she is teaching dance at a studio in Maryland.
